High Adventures comes to Frederick County

posted Mar 4, 2013, 10:43 AM by smurdock20

Frederick County is launching a new 4-H club specializing in "High Adventure". This club will focus on youth development through outdoor experiential learning. Each year, the club will select a single high adventure activity and enjoy a learning program that develops the skills and confidence needed for the adventure. The annual program will challenge members physically and mentally while developing a life-long appreciation of the great outdoors

This year the club is planning to bike the full 184.5 mile length of the C&O Canal towpath!    Members will learn essential skills for bicycle touring, including necessary camping skills.    Following a once thriving backbone of commerce, they'll experience the history of the canal from start to finish, visiting historic lockhouses, dams, and even a 3,118 foot long tunnel!

Caps for Cures!

posted Oct 31, 2012, 9:00 AM by smurdock20   [ updated Nov 5, 2012, 9:50 AM ]

Please help support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with Caps for Cures!

We are collecting handmade hats of all kinds for the children being treated. Our goal is to collect 500 hats and $1000 for St. Jude by May of 2013. The hats can be sewn, knitted, or crocheted. Your hat could be the hope that a child needs to fight through treatment! Be as creative as you like, and make a hat that will cheer up any patient! These hats would be a great token to show the children in treatment that the world cares about them and is striving to find a cure. Please spread the word to everyone you know!

Please send completed hats and donations to K.T. Hair & Co., 99 South McCain Drive, Frederick, Maryland 21703.

Thank you so much,

Megan Toms - Frederick County 4-H Queen (2011-12)

WORKSHOP - To support Megan in her efforts the 4-H Office will be hosting a Hat making workshop.  On January 21 from 10-2pm at the 4-H Camp and Activities center we will be sewing, knitting and crocheting our fingers off to donate as many hats as possible.  Instructors will be on hand to teach beginner knitting and crocheting stitches and assist with the hat creations.  You can register for this event by calling Jennie Schiazzi at 301-600-1589 or by email - schiazzi@umd.edu.

DONATIONS - Now accepting donations of yarn, thread and fabric to help with hat construction.  If you or your business would like to make a tax deductible donation, please contact us!
