High Adventures comes to Frederick County

posted Mar 4, 2013, 10:43 AM by smurdock20

Frederick County is launching a new 4-H club specializing in "High Adventure". This club will focus on youth development through outdoor experiential learning. Each year, the club will select a single high adventure activity and enjoy a learning program that develops the skills and confidence needed for the adventure. The annual program will challenge members physically and mentally while developing a life-long appreciation of the great outdoors

This year the club is planning to bike the full 184.5 mile length of the C&O Canal towpath!    Members will learn essential skills for bicycle touring, including necessary camping skills.    Following a once thriving backbone of commerce, they'll experience the history of the canal from start to finish, visiting historic lockhouses, dams, and even a 3,118 foot long tunnel!
